Historical Security Council
- The Vietnam War: the landing of US troops at Da Nang, 8 March 1965
- The Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, Sarajevo, 28 June 1914
My name is Ben Sanders and I will be serving as chair for the Historical Security Council along with my co-chair Karen Tam. For the first time in THAIMUN’s illustrious history, there will be an HSC and I couldn’t be happier to partake in leading it. This committee will deal with important historical events at their infancy so the actions taken by the delegates greatly affect the future of the conflicts. Much can be learned from the past to help us deal with the present. I attended THAIMUN V as the chair of the Security Council, and have also gone to previous iterations of the conference as a delegate. Besides THAIMUN, I’ve gone to IASAS MUN, SEASAC MUN, BKKMUN and BPSMUN, amongst others. Having attended many of those as delegates, I am eager to help my delegates at this conference improve and learn in a committee that will offer them a new experience.
My name is Karen and I am a senior at International School Bangkok. I am honoured to be your chair for the Historical Security Council for THAIMUN this year, as it will be my third and last THAIMUN conference. This new committee posses huge potential and I am beyond excited to chair a fruitful debate. My experience at 15 conferences throughout my MUN career has shaped me for this very conference, and I am honour to chair at my last conference. Aside from MUN and stressing about IB, I enjoy cross country running, re- watching Sherlock or keeping up with the latest PMQ's. This year I am also fortunate enough to be part of the secretariat team at ISB MUN which gave me experience and insight into the workings of a conference. I am looking forward to the lively and fruitful debate to come!
