Hello everyone, and welcome to Thailand’s biggest annual conference, THAIMUN. My name is Parinlada Viktoria (Vicka) Wright, and I am truly honored to be serving as one of your Secretary-Generals for THAIMUN XIII.
MUN has not only been the most defining point of my high school career, but also my life. It has taught me far beyond debate; to negotiate, communicate, and, most importantly, take responsibility for my actions and be held accountable for them. I am currently a senior at Ruamrudee International School, and this conference marks both my fourth THAIMUN and my fourth year in the MUN circuit. I still remember walking into my very first conference 3 years ago, THAIMUN X. I was so nervous that my legs shook as I gave my opening speech and couldn’t even raise a proper POI. But instead of giving up, I set a personal goal: one day, I would win a Best Delegate award at THAIMUN. That dream came true at THAIMUN XII last year, when I was honored to receive not only Best Delegate, but also an overall Honorable Mention. If you had told me back in 2023 that this would happen, I would have been in absolute disbelief. This too, will be an experience many of you will face, but let me say; use this fear as an opportunity to push and motivate you to succeed. Apart from MUN, you can find me binge-watching TV shows and movies, listening to my 100 spotify playlists, playing tennis, getting my daily matcha and doing community service projects and initiatives. This conference would not have been possible without the help of my fellow secretariat members: Matt, my fellow secretary-general, and Dana & Thyme, our parliamentarians. I would also like to extend my gratitude to our chairs, who have worked tirelessly to prepare engaging and thoughtful committees, and to our SMT members, who keep everything running behind the scenes, whether it was vetting chair reports, making beautiful designs for the media, or keeping track of finance and finding sponsors. Finally, on behalf of the entire THAIMUN team, I want to sincerely thank Mr. Wood for his unhesitating guidance and support throughout this journey. And most importantly, to all the delegates and chairs, whether this is your very first conference or your twentieth, I hope THAIMUN XIII gives you something meaningful to take away. Step outside your comfort zone, take risks, and DO NOT be afraid to make mistakes along the way. MUN is so much more than just an extracurricular or winning an award since it has the power to shape how you are. It will challenge you, encourage you, and push you to grow in ways you might not expect. I am looking forward to seeing you all in March. Good luck to you all! |

Hello everyone! My name is Smith (Matt) Thamakaison, a junior at the International School Bangkok, and I’m extremely honoured to be serving as one of this year's Secretary-Generals for THAIMUN XIII.
First and foremost, I would like to extend my dearest gratitude to my fellow Secretary-Generals, Vicka; our two exceptional Parliamentarians, Dana and Thyme; our devoted THAIMUN Director, Mr. John Wood; and the ever-supportive THAIMUNXIII SMT. I truly appreciate the hard work and dedication that you’ve all poured into constructing this conference into such a memorable experience for everyone involved. My beginning to MUN, I must confess, rather prosaic; I was a small, anxious middle schooler - clueless beyond thought. My first few conferences were marked by loss after loss. Yet, each setback brought growth; each failure taught me something new - how to speak with conviction, how to fruitfully debate with others, how to listen to others with diplomacy, and how to lead with a clear, stark, purpose. Over time, MUN became the first place I felt my voice, fragile as it was, could matter. Those words, when used with integrity and purpose, could soften divisions, and perhaps, even in the smallest ways, change something within ourselves and others. Now, I serve as part of the Secretariat because I wish to offer others what MUN offered me: the realization that one’s voice, however uncertain, can still alter the air around it. I can give back to the community the valuable lessons MUN has taught me, and allow me to help create that environment for others; one where delegates feel encouraged to step out of their comfort zones and truly think critically. Outside of MUN, I am a triathlete, and I also enjoy photography and playing the saxophone. I am also passionate about urban studies and architecture; it talks about real things, the things that matter, and the issues that we all have a collective responsibility to help resolve. If you ever wish to discuss cities, maps, or the poetry of software, I would be more than glad to share that conversation with you. So, as we begin THAIMUN XIII, I hope this experience becomes more than a contest of ideas. I hope it unsettles you, moves you, perhaps even confuses you a little - because confusion, too, is a sign of thought. Whether it’s the tremor of your first speech, the fever of crisis, or the quiet after the last gavel, may you leave this place a little more aware of yourself and of others. |
